The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC+R) Technician diploma program provides a foundation in basic heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration system design, installation and service with an on-the-job experience component to support BCIT instruction. The course is two years in duration combining classroom and shop instruction with cooperative education experience in industry. The first year is devoted to direct refrigeration systems. The second year includes a broad range of topics focused on HVAC systems design, operation and controls. Emphasis will be placed on diagnosis, service requirements and procedures.

Overview
The HVAC and Refrigeration Technician program is a two-year program that combines class and shop instruction with co-op education experience in industry. First-year students learn about direct refrigeration systems. Second-year students cover HVAC systems design, operation, and controls with an emphasis on diagnosis, service requirements, and procedures.
Availability
Students are required to complete two 22-week Co-op terms in a HVAC and Refrigeration facility, alternating between three academic terms, and must complete a minimum of 660 working hours per work term. Students are typically available from Late-August through January, and May to October.
When to recruit
We recommend that you begin recruiting approximately two to three months prior to the start of a work term to have the greatest selection of candidates. As students are typically available beginning in May and August, you may wish to begin recruiting as early as February and June.
