Mission

BCIT Recreation Services is dedicated to the health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, and members of the community. We consider recreation an integral part of campus life and welcome everyone to discover, participate and enjoy our many services. We encourage a well-balanced, active lifestyle that offsets the rigors of academia and everyday life.

Name: Lisa Sulatycki
Position: Operations Coordinator
Joined the Team: January, 2014
Hometown: North York, Ontario.

Lisa received her Undergrad in Kinesiology from LSU and her Master in Sports Administration from KSU. She brings many years of experience in the athletic and recreation field. Lisa is responsible for the day-to-day operations of recreation and supervision of the staff. Outside of Rec, Lisa enjoys the outdoors, hiking and exploring BC. She is a sports fan and one of her favourite times of the year is March madness.

Position: Community Events & Engagement Coordinator
Joined the Team: August, 2018
Hometown: Ottawa, Ontario.

Daniel received his B.Comm. in Sports Administration from Laurentian University and brings with him a number of years of experience working for the Ottawa Senators of the NHL in events & community programs. Daniel is responsible for developing and overseeing recreation events and activities for all BCIT students, staff and public clients at all of BCIT’s campuses. Outside of Rec, Daniel plays in an adult hockey league and coaches minor hockey in the PCMHA. When Daniel is not on the ice or behind the bench he can be found cheering for his hometown Senators and the Denver Broncos.


Name: Mikayla Wong
Position: Sports Programs & Intramurals Coordinator
Joined the Team: July, 2021
Hometown: Burnaby, British Columbia.

Mikayla’s educational background is in the field of recreation, holding a Diploma in Recreation Leadership and Bachelor of Recreation Management from Langara College; she is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Leadership at Royal Roads University. Prior to joining the BCIT team, she had extensive experience working in municipal and private recreation in arena sports, children’s camps & programs and events. As well, her previous work experience as a Recreation Programmer at another university shone a light on the importance of recreation for the overall wellbeing of the campus community and ultimately sparked her passion for working in student services. Outside of Rec, Mikayla is involved in the climbing community as a certified Association of Canadian Mountain Guides instructor, route-setter and is an avid outdoor rock climber herself. She also enjoys travelling, snowboarding, co-op video games and snuggling her two black cats, Jalapeno and Habanero.

Name: Melissa Stamatovic
Position: Fitness and Wellness Coordinator
Joined the Team: July, 2019
Hometown: Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Melissa received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from SFU. Melissa has a number of years of experience working in a large post-secondary recreation facility and has past experience as a fitness programmer and personal trainer. Melissa is responsible for providing administrative support for the recreation department as well as assisting with the Fitness Centre operations. Outside of Rec, Melissa is frequently outdoors hiking and exploring BC. She also has a strong passion for human kinetics and bio mechanics.


Name: Luka Djuras
Position: Recreation Services Assistant
Joined the Team: September, 2023
Hometown: New Westminster, British Columbia

Luka received his Recreation Leadership Diploma from Langara College and is currently completing the Recreation Management Degree program. He has several years experience working in municipal recreation specifically in arenas and youth. Luka also has experience in the Sport Management field working for the Provincial Sport Organization for Basketball in BC. Luka is responsible for providing administrative support for the recreation department as well as assisting in recreation and sport events for BCIT students, staff and public clients. Outside of Rec, Luka plays hockey and basketball in local adult leagues and is and avid golfer. Luka also enjoys spending his time watching anime, hanging out with his dog Koby, and cheering for the San Francisco 49er’s & Vancouver Canucks.

Name: Nicole Smith
Position: Recreation Services Assistant
Joined the Team: August, 2024
Hometown: Port Moody, British Columbia

Nicole received her Diploma in Recreation Leadership and Bachelor of Recreation Management from Langara College. Nicole previously worked in Municipal Recreation with over 10 years experience overseeing preschool, children, youth, adults, and senior departments through a variety of sports, arts, and fitness programs. Nicole also works as a Dance Instructor choreographing, leading, and mentoring students in a variety of dance styles and levels of discipline. Nicole has a passion for Performing Arts and previously trained in professional dance companies and cabaret style dance in Vancouver. During her free time, Nicole enjoys hiking, eating delicious food, and spending time with family and friends.

Name: Marcia Dheilly-Sturrock
Position: Recreation Services Assistant
Joined the Team: October, 2024

Marcia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Coaching with a Specialization in Kinesiology from Douglas College and is a certified health coach and nutritionist. She brings over 10 years of experience in recreation, focusing on the planning and leadership of diverse programs that emphasize experiential learning. Marcia is dedicated to helping participants explore, learn, and connect through active engagement. Outside of work, she is an avid rock climber, canoeist, hiker, and camper, and she finds joy in expressing her creativity through pottery. Her deep passion for the outdoors and sports fuels her commitment to fostering a love for recreation within the community.
