Overview of Status in Canada

According to IRCC, Having legal status means you are authorized to enter and remain in Canada as a temporary or permanent resident under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act…

Foreign nationals in Canada must maintain a valid status in Canada at all times. This may require you to meet certain conditions or to apply to extend your status document. For most international students, this means having a valid study permit throughout your studies. Though you may also hold another kind of status in Canada at some point in your life.

For any questions about status in Canada or to provide proof of your status document, please email statusdoc@bcit.ca and include your student ID number.
