Applicant priority differs across many programs offered at BCIT based on what type of program you wish to take.
Full-time technology and degree programs
First-qualified, first-accepted programs
- Applications are considered for a specific intake.
- Applicants are accepted on a first-qualified, first-accepted basis.
- Once all seats are filled, new qualified applicants are placed on a waitlist.
- If seats become available, waitlisted applicants are offered a seat on a first-qualified, first-accepted basis.
- After the program start date, any applicants remaining on the waitlist are encouraged to apply early for the next intake of the program.
Competitive programs
- Applications are considered for a specific intake.
- Applications are accepted until the application deadline date.
- Applicants are accepted on a competitive basis after the application deadline date.
- Once all seats are filled, remaining qualified applicants are placed on a waitlist in rank order.
- After the program start date, any applicants remaining on the waitlist are encouraged to apply early for the next intake of the program.
Competitive programs with multiple deadlines
- The program area will review applications after each deadline date.
- Applicants not accepted at the first deadline will be considered at the second deadline date.
- All applicants will receive a decision on their application after the second deadline date.
- If all seats are filled at the second deadline, applicants may be accepted to a waitlist.
- For programs with a third deadline date, if space remains, the program area will review applications received between the second and third deadline dates or until the program fills.
Full-time trades and technical studies programs
For most trades and technical studies programs, applicants who meet all the entrance requirements will be considered complete applicants. Complete applicants are waitlisted until seats become available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Apprenticeship training
Registration for apprenticeship training is processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Part-time degree programs
For many part-time degree programs, applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the year.
Flexible Learning
Registration for Flexible Learning courses is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students should be aware that space in courses is limited; some courses fill very quickly.
Applications for Program Declaration are also processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
