Overview
The Technology Entry (TE) program is a 15-week, full-time day school program that provides academic preparation to help you meet BCIT technology program entry requirements in communication, mathematics, chemistry, and physics. TE is also suitable if you need BC educational equivalents to supplement credentials earned in other school systems.
In addition to the core areas, you will also be given an introductory course in computer applications, a learning skills seminar, and an overview of technology options and related careers to round out the traditional academic subjects.
Some programs have prerequisite requirements not offered by the TE program, such as biology courses. Please check the individual program for entrance requirements and timelines.
About the program
- The tuition portion is free for Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents
- 2 intakes: September & January
- Monday to Friday, 8:30 am until 5:30 pm

- February 1st* for the January intake
- October 1st* for the September intake
*or next business day
Entrance requirements
Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first qualified basis as long as space remains. Applications are considered for a specific intake.
- English: two years of education in English in an English-speaking country with one of the following:
- Composition 11 (50%) or
- Creative Writing 11 (50%) or
- Literary Studies 11 (50%) or
- New Media 11 (50%)
- Spoken Language 11 (50%) or
- English First Peoples 11 (50%) or

What if I don’t meet these English requirements? - Math: one of the following:
- Pre-Calculus 11 (60%) or
- Foundations of Math 11 (73%) or
- Acceptable equivalent high school course or
- BCIT math competency testing
Chemistry and Physics Technology Entry (TE) course offerings:
All TE students are required to take both chemistry and physics. Your follow up program choice, TE term and science prerequisites will determine your TE science course grade level:
Fall term (September intake): Only grade 11 level chemistry and physics are offered. The grade 11 level science courses do not require additional science entrance requirements.
Winter term (January intake): Both grade 11 and grade 12 level chemistry and physics are offered. Applicants requiring grade 12 level chemistry and physics courses must meet the following additional entrance requirements:
- Chemistry 11 (60%)
- Physics 11 (60%)
Note: Applicants to the Technology Entry program should be aware of their desired follow-up program's science prerequisites and choose to register in either grade 11 or grade 12 level physics and chemistry accordingly. There is also an option to combine grade 11 chemistry (CHEM 0011) and grade 12 physics (PHYS 0312). Space is extremely limited in the grade 12 science stream. It is strongly recommended that applicants requiring Physics 12 and/or Chemistry 12 apply as early as possible to the January intake.
International applicants
This program is available to international applicants. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.
Advanced placement
Re-admission Requirements

Program Details
Technology Entry students attend lectures and labs in traditional classrooms, laboratory and computer-intensive environments. Emphasis is placed on both academic concept development and hands-on, lab-based activities. Students work individually, with partners and in teams.
Tech Day: This event enables students to experience classes and network in their follow-up technology program. In a small group setting they meet with various program representatives and get critical questions related to short and long term expectations answered. Information obtained is used to complete assignments in TE courses. The knowledge gained on Tech Day serves to reinforce program choice and is a learning opportunity/reality check for all who participate.
Students always say the best part of the day is meeting with their prospective program head, attending classes with expert faculty and/or talking with their currently enrolled peers.
Examples of programs students apply to include:
- Architectural & Building Technology
- Biomedical Engineering
- Chemical and Environmental Technology
- Civil Engineering
- Computer Information Technology
- Computer Systems Technology
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology
- Food Technology
- Industrial Network Cybersecurity
- Mining and Mineral Exploration Technology
- Medical Laboratory Science
- Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Mechatronics & Robotics
- Nuclear Medicine Technology
- Occupational Health and Safety
Please note: Students may apply for follow-up programs using midterm grades from Technology Entry, issued when 50% or more of the assessed material is finished in each course (approximately Week 9). However, some programs have earlier deadlines; students may only be able to secure waitlist spots and/or apply for the next offering. Please check the program’s entrance requirements.
