Overview
Students will acquire a deeper understanding of safety management in general and explore several health and safety topics in more depth. Several business courses are included to enable students to increase their knowledge of the business side of safety.
This program builds upon the knowledge and skills students acquired in the Associate Certificate in Foundations in Occupational Health and Safety program.
Completion of this program after the Associate Certificate in Foundations in Occupational Health and Safety program will allow graduates to meet the educational requirements for certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).

Application processing
This program is open to declarations beginning:
- February 1st* for the January intake
- May 1st* for the April intake
- October 1st* for the September intake
Entrance requirements
Declarations submitted for program intakes beginning April 1, 2025 or later will be evaluated using the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirement below.
- English language proficiency: Category 3 – English Studies 12 (50%) or equivalent
- Post-secondary education: completion of the Associate Certificate in Foundations in Occupational Health and Safety.
Recommended for success
To be successful in this program, students are recommended to have the following:
- High school graduation
- Five years or more of work experience
- Computer skills
- Passion for:
- creating safe work environment for others
- interacting directly with people at all levels and positions
- working in a dynamic and demanding work environment
International applicants
This program is available to international applicants who will complete the program from outside Canada or who currently have a valid status in Canada other than a study permit. International applicants accepted into this program are not eligible for a study permit.

Program Details
Program length
Student have seven years to complete the program requirements. Most students should be able to complete the program in two to five years.
Grading
All OCHS courses have a passing grade of 60% and consist of two assignments and two exams. Business courses have a passing grade of 50%.
Program delivery
Online: This program is delivered fully online.

Apply for graduation
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit it to Student Information and Enrolment Services.
Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.
All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
