Course details

This course covers theory, practice and standard programs employed by human resource management practitioners in today’s private sector business, government and other organizations. The course covers the major human resource management functions with some emphasis on applied knowledge. Recommended for all persons interested in general management, HR management, and/or supervision. This course may be eligible for students to receive funding through the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant at www.bcit.ca/financial-aid/strongerbc-future-skills-grant. Students register themselves into the course, then apply for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant to cover payment, if eligible.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the programs and processes associated with acquiring and maintaining an effective and efficient workforce.
  • Analyze some of the key human resource management issues facing Canadian organizations.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the terminology and some generally accepted practices within some of the main human resource management functional areas. E.g.: Recruitment and Selection, Training & Development, Performance Management, etc.
  • Identify the various bodies of employment laws and regulations that apply to employers operating in British Columbia.
  • Create effective written and oral reports.
