Course details
Focuses on the reduction of the effects of disasters through established and proven workplace emergency plans, procedures, and training. Evaluates the issues that arise prior to, during, and immediately following an emergency, as well as the long-range recovery challenges that follow. Discusses the development of an emergency response team and its implications. Includes an overview of community and government disaster services.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Determine legal requirements regarding emergency preparedness and response.
- Describe the roles, responsibilities and functions in emergency preparedness and response systems.
- Communicate with personnel, management, community, and government services in terms of emergency preparedness and response.
- Identify and address hazards, risks and vulnerabilities.
- Explain various mitigation strategies that may be appropriate for hazards, risks and vulnerabilities identified.
- Identify and address diversity in requirements in a business and a community.
- Describe the procedures involved in development and deployment of a plan and program.
- List the basic requirements of an emergency preparedness and response plan and program.
- Describe situations and outcomes for some notable examples of past disasters.
- Develop and implement an emergency preparedness and response plan.
- Identify and access various resources available to assist in the development and deployment of an emergency preparedness and response plan.
- Conduct basic instruction and training exercises.
