The Burnaby Campus Library has a collection of over 5,000 videos and DVDs. The Aerospace Technology Campus Library has a collection of over 800 videos on aviation related topics. The Marine Campus Library has a collection of over 500 videos on marine related topics.

A valid BCIT Student ID card is required to borrow media. A maximum of five items may be signed out on your card at any given time.

Borrowing media

Videos and DVDs designated as a seven-day loan may be borrowed on a first come, first served basis. Three-hour loan media can be viewed in the Library.

Seven-day loan media may be renewed a maximum of twice subject to availability. They may be renewed in person or online by accessing Your Library Account.

Booking media

Students may book media in advance for a class presentation. Seven-day loan videos and DVDs may be booked at the Service Desk, or by telephone at 604-432-8370, or via email.

Requests for media designated as three-hour loan require authorization from your instructor. Forms may be obtained from the Service Desk. Three-hour loan media must be picked up and returned on the day of the class presentation.

Intercampus loans

Some videos and DVDs may be brought in from other campus libraries for pick up. Complete a request form at the Circulation Desk of your campus library.

Videos & DVDs from outside sources

Media may be borrowed from other BC colleges and universities for research and class presentations. The ELN Media Database lists titles held at BC post-secondary institutions. Requests must be made through your instructor.

Viewing facilities

Individual media viewing facilities are located on the Main Level of the Burnaby Campus Library in the Reference area. Group viewing facilities are available on the Lower Level of the Library and may be booked in advance for a fee of $1.00. Contact the Circulation Desk at 604-432-8370.

Viewing facilities are also available at the ATC and BMC libraries.

Licensing & copyright

In Canada, videos and DVDs shown in a classroom setting must be cleared for public performance. Media licensed as “home use” may not be used in class without obtaining non-theatrical public performance rights.

Media cannot be copied or transferred, in whole or in part, without written permission from the copyright owner.
