Course Overview
This course provides a general introduction to the structural design process. Topics include limit states design philosophy, determination of dead, live, snow, and wind load effects according to national standards, gravity load paths and selection of structural systems.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the philosophy of Limit States Design.
- Explain the overall structural design process.
- Quantify dead loads, occupancy loads, snow loads, and wind loads in accordance with current NBCC and BCBC Division B Part 4 criteria.
- Trace vertical load paths through basic structural systems and multi-storey buildings.
