- International Fees
International fees are typically 3.12 times the domestic tuition. Exact cost will be calculated upon completion of registration.
Course Overview
This course presents a thorough introduction to the relationship between applied loads and the resultant support reactions and internal forces developed in statically determinate members and structures. Topics include classification of force systems, equilibrium equations, support conditions, freebody diagrams, support reactions, truss analysis by the methods of joints and sections, analysis of pinned plane frames, geometric properties of sections, distributed loading, and load, shear force and bending moment diagrams for beams.
Domestic fees
$1,092.55
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Draw freebody diagrams of determinate members and/or structures.
- Apply the fundamental equations of equilibrium to determine support reactions for plane structures.
- Determine the location of the centroid for a composite body and the resultant force for a distributed load.
- Utilize the method of sections to determine axial forces in pinned plane trusses.
- Determine the required equilibrium pin reactions for machines and frames.
- Derive axial forces, shear forces, and bending moments at a section.
- Write equations for member shear force and bending moment as a function of location.
- Graph shear force and bending moment functions.
Effective as of Winter 2012
