The Radio Arts and Entertainment Associate Certificate enriches your interviewing, writing, podcasting, and production skills. Guided by industry professionals, you'll learn radio operations, sound design, storytelling, and more. Graduates can pursue their radio entertainment dreams through podcasts, YouTube, or traditional radio stations.

Discover the ultimate expression of voice, story and music to entertain, inform and inspire in the most powerful way! That’s the world of Radio Arts and Entertainment. Through this program, you’ll be guided by industry professionals to explore radio operations, sound design, performance, writing, story-telling, the exciting world of music and its cultural impact. Through our mix of required and elective courses, you have the opportunity to hone your skills in interviewing, journalism, podcasting, sports broadcasting, video, photography, media relations, and event planning. Through Flexible Learning, you can learn at your own pace in a hands-on, creative environment that allows you to share your unique personality, creativity, and story.
Who should complete the program?

- You are a story-teller with your own website, blog, or YouTube series who wants to enhance performance, writing and production skills to tell more powerful and professional stories

By earning your Associate Certificate, you’ll be honing your announcing, writing, story-telling, studio operations, and production skills to prepare for a variety of entry-level positions in the Radio, Arts, and Entertainment industry. This ever-expanding field is looking for more and more skilled talent ready to host, program, and produce the growing amount of content needed in today’s digital world. Be it Podcasts, YouTube, commercial ventures, or traditional radio, if you are a creative person with a story to tell, this program is your start towards an exciting career!

About Flexible Learning
Take a single course, or work towards a credential — all at a pace that’s right for you.
Part-time courses are offered in a variety of scheduling formats such as evenings and weekends, and some of our offerings are available by distance or online learning. If you meet the prerequisites and there’s space available, you can register for a course immediately.
Application processing
This program is open to declarations beginning:
- February 1st* for the January intake
- May 1st* for the April intake
- October 1st* for the September intake
Entrance requirements
Declarations submitted for program intakes beginning April 1, 2025 or later will be evaluated using the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirement below.
- English language proficiency: Category 2 – English Studies 12 (67%) or equivalent
International applicants
This program is available to international applicants. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.
Program declaration
Declaring your Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) program ensures that BCIT is aware of your intent to complete a program as it is currently outlined and provides you the opportunity to apply for transfer credit.
To submit your declaration:
- Answer all questions completely.
- If required, convert transcripts and documents to PDF files.
- Have a credit card ready to pay the application fee.
Declare Now
Upon approval, a program plan letter will be sent to you confirming your program of study. Please allow approximately eight weeks for processing.

While Broadcast and Media Communications Flexible Learning courses do not adhere to the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) requirements, it is nonetheless preferable for students to have access to a personal computer to enhance their learning environment and to ensure course success. Please check the following recommended computer requirements prior to the start of class.
Tuition fees
Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) tuition is charged on a course-by-course basis. Please see the Flexible Learning Tuition & Fees page for more information on domestic and international tuitions.

High demand courses fill quickly and may result in students unable to register for a course that semester. Courses may also be cancelled due to low enrolment.

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit it to Student Information and Enrolment Services.
Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.
All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
