This course will give you the ability to produce music in a home studio environment using available and affordable technology, including your own tablet or laptop. Instructor Clarence Deis has 39 years experience working in audio, with an emphasis on live music recording. The course will be very hands on and interactive.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Illustrate a working knowledge of the history of live and studio music recording, which has led to the current technology and software.
  • Describe the significance of acoustics as they pertain to both recording and live sound.
  • Capture maximum quality audio tracks by appreciating the characteristics of various microphones and placement techniques as the key ingredient to producing professional quality program content.
  • Use stage boxes to transfer audio to live speakers, recording tablets and for streaming.
  • Apply the convenience of touchscreen tablet recording and audio technologies, as touchscreen recordings are now replacing the mouse click style of current PC recording.
  • Identify how home recording techniques are replacing conventional recording studios for most of today's music recording.
  • Use available software to overcome the drawbacks of small recording space typically found in most home settings in order to simulate a large room setting.
