Note: Seatime accumulated aboard commercial vessels will vary for each certificate of competency. Factors affecting the calculation of seatime will be amount of time worked in a day, tonnage of the ship and geographic sailing area. Transport Canada is the sole authority to assess seatime for your progression as a Mariner.
The Cadet program puts all the courses in one program. Outside the Cadet program, a student would complete individual courses between work with a company to alternate between completing courses and accumulating seatime.
There are a number of smaller Canadian Domestic certificates namely Master 150 Domestic, Master 500 Domestic and Master 3000 Domestic GT(Gross Tonnage). To obtain these certificates one also completes a series of MED courses, seatime and the successful completion of examinations.
