National Research Council demonstration at the Aerospace Technology Campus

In an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has partnered with Boeing Commercial Airplanes to address the safe utilization of hydrogen in a custom-designed fuel cell system, which could provide reliable auxiliary power as a targeted concept for future commercial aircraft. The NRC oversees this research being carried onboard a grounded Boeing 737 at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Aerospace Technology Campus. 3D Knowledge objects (3KOs)

BCIT’s Learning and Teaching Centre, BCIT Aerospace, and NGRAIN Corporation have recently been granted funding from Inukshuk Wireless to integrate rich, interactive media into the aerospace maintenance training curriculum.

The media developed in this project will consist primarily of 3D models, animations, and task or procedural simulations, known as 3D knowledge objects (3KOs). The Inukshuk funding will be used to develop 3KOs that will be integrated into the existing curriculum in three Aircraft Maintenance Engineer categories (Avionics, Maintenance and Structures) and the Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine Technician program.

Fleet renewal

The campus has been undergoing a fleet renewal project. Our goal is to have a fleet of aircraft and equipment available to the training staff that is unparalleled worldwide. We’re always striving to better equip our learners for the modern industry and its requirements.
