What BCIT can supply for dynanometer testing

Dynamometer testing is available at the Motive Power Centre of Excellence on Annacis Island in Delta, BC

  1. Engine dynamometer testing
  2. Chassis dynamometer testing

1. Engine dynamometer testing

  • Warehouse with a dynamometer.Sound attenuated enclosure room with computer controlled work station located outside booth. Bullet resistant viewing window for watching engine operating conditions. The room is equipped with a large passive exhaust system. This room has two 42 inch fans, 27,000 cfm at 0.250″ i.w.g. 460V, 3-phase to maintain approximately 20° Δ T
  • 1000hp engine dynamometer with torque, RPM and horsepower readings. Programmable test cycles for accurate repeatability.
  • Dynamometer about waiste high grey bottom with red top rectangular boxTotal of 16 pressure readings, pressure ranges as follows:
    • Nine pressure readings 0-100psi
    • One pressure reading 0-5psi
    • One pressure reading 0-50psi
    • One pressure reading 0-200psi
    • One pressure reading 0-500psi
    • Three pressure readings  -14.7-100psi
  • Total of 16 temperature readings using type K thermocouples
  • Engine control Module (ECM) interface using common protocols J1708/J1587, J1939, OBDII, SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, SAE J2284/ISO 15765 (CAN), ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4. ELECTRONIC ENGINES ONLY
  • ECM ignition supply for electronic engines
  • Engine crankcase blow-by measurement
  • Exhaust opacity measurement
  • Exhaust gas emission monitoring using a Testo 350 emission analyzer. The 350 can measure O2, CO, NO, NO2, SO2, H2S, Hydrocarbons, CO2, pressure, temperature, flow, and velocity. NOₓ is calculated using NO and NO₂

Fuel management capabilities for Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC) readings

  • The diesel fuel measurement unit (FMU) accurately measures the weight of diesel fuel in a beaker and calculates the rate of fuel consumption by continuously analyzing the weight of the beaker as the engine draws and returns fuel.

2. Chassis dynamometer testing

  • outdoor view of loading area to a warehouse.Outdoor covered dyno area
  • Taylor Eddy current chassis dyno for tandem drive vehicles
  • Max 600HP (wheel HP) with programmable test cycles for repeatability
  • Total of four pressure readings, pressure ranges as follows;
    • One pressure reading 0-5psi
    • One pressure reading 0-200psi
    • One pressure reading 0-500psi
    • One pressure reading -14.7-100psi
  • Semi truck being tested.Total of four temperature readings using type K thermocouples
  • Engine control module (ECM) interface using common protocols J1708/J1587, J1939, OBDII, SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, SAE J2284/ISO 15765 (CAN), ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4. ELECTRONIC ENGINES ONLY
