Non-academic misconduct
The purposes of disciplinary sanctions are:
- To affirm BCIT’s standards of behaviour.
- To repair harm that has been done or restore what has been damaged.
- To guide the student in making appropriate choices in the future.
Many factors are considered when determining sanctions, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Nature and severity of the violation
- Role of the student in the incident
- Student’s attitude and understanding of the situation
- Student’s prior disciplinary record
- Impact on others
- Likelihood the student may be a danger to the Institute community
- Other aggravating or mitigating factors
Types of sanctions
- Verbal warning
- Written warning
- Performance contract
- Suspension of privileges
- Restorative justice solutions
- Restriction on accessing parts of the campus
- Restriction on access to any BCIT campus
- Restriction on further registration in BCIT courses or programs
- Suspension from the institute
- Expulsion
