Overview
The Global Leadership Graduate Certificate equips students with essential leadership skills and intercultural competencies, essential for navigating the global marketplace and workforce. This full-time 9-month cohort program also fosters the growth of a robust professional network. You'll develop effective communication and negotiation skills.
In the Global Leadership program at BCIT, you will gain invaluable leadership skills and intercultural competencies that are instrumental for today’s business environment. You will become responsive to the needs of both a global marketplace and workforce, while factoring in the needs and perspectives of internal and external stakeholders. Ultimately, this graduate certificate program will promote the global mindset required to lead in an increasingly diverse business world.
About the program
The program incorporates a blend of assessments, including case studies, problem-based learning, collaborative group work, self-reflections, and individual projects. Students are exposed to real-world leadership issues throughout their coursework, culminating in a capstone project where students will be given the opportunity to work on solving real problems facing industry.
- Two terms to complete: Six graduate level courses taught over nine months (September to May)
- Blended course delivery: Evenings at the Vancouver campus combined with online learning
- Cohort program: You will work through this full-time program with your cohort, sharing your experience and expertise, and building a professional network that will last long after you have graduated
- Global leadership capstone project: Students assume the role of a professional in global leadership and develop a report and presentation, addressing solutions to real-world industry challenges
- Laddering options: Articulations with partners are being developed so that alumni can ladder to international master degree programs

Application processing
Open to applications beginning October 1st (or next business day).
Entrance requirements
Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first-qualified basis as long as space remains.
- English language proficiency: Graduate Studies – English Studies 12 (67%) or equivalent
- Post-secondary education: A recognized bachelor's degree in any field
Applicants who have completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand will require a basic evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). Credential evaluation reports from other Canadian services may be considered.
Recommended for success
For the seminars to have graduate-level conversations and learning outcomes overall, it is expected students have some applicable life and/or work experience that can help conceptualize the theoretical and applied learning in the program.International applicants
This program is available to international applicants. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.
Students enrolled in this program must complete the mandatory work component to qualify for graduation. A co-op work permit is required prior to starting the work component.

Bring your own device
Most courses and programs in the School of Business + Media are BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Please ensure you bring a laptop to every class. Plug-in outlets will be provided at most stations in classrooms, but not in all classrooms, so please ensure you have at least 2 hours of battery life available at the beginning of each class. Check the following recommended computer requirements prior to the start of class. If a program or course does not require you to provide your own device, that information will be provided by your instructor or indicated in the course outline.
For online classes, it is important you have a stable and consistent internet connection to access course content.

Flexible Schedule
This full-time program is designed to give you access to a master’s level program through a blended learning format. You’ll be able to pursue lifelong learning while maintaining daytime employment or other activities by attending evening classes at the Vancouver campus and studying as an online learner.

Program goals
In the Global Leadership program, you will learn to:
- Demonstrate leadership skills to develop and optimize successful global teams.
- Determine successful global strategies that will position an organization to capitalize on opportunities while being responsive to new and emerging situations.
- Cultivate a culture of trust and integrity, influence others, form teams, and build coalitions, in a cross-cultural context.
- Demonstrate effective and culturally-aware communication and negotiation skills both in direct and technology-enabled communications.
- Create clear objectives that identify competitive strategic advantages and integrate motivational strategies for employees in global teams.
Grading
Courses are graded on a percentage scale. The passing grade for each course is 60%.
