Overview
Gasfitters – Class A design, install, test, adjust, maintain and repair lines, appliances, burners, equipment and accessories in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional sectors. Fuels may include natural gas, manufactured gas, liquefied petroleum gas, digester gas, landfill gas, biogas or a mixture or dilution of any of these gases and Hydrogen and fuel oils. Appliances and equipment include any gas system, regardless of input, (except vehicle fuel systems), under an appropriate permit.
Gasfitter – Class A is a progressive model expanding on the training received in the Gasfitter – Class B apprenticeship training. Candidates must possess a Gas-fitter class B Certificate of Qualification for at least 2 years and successfully completing the Gasfitter – Class A apprenticeship technical training with a training provider recognized by Technical Safety BC, to be eligible to challenge the Technical Safety BC Certificate of Qualification exam to become a Gasfitter – Class A.
The Gasfitter – Class A program consists of two levels that cover the in-school technical portion of the apprenticeship training. All levels of training use applied learning in conjunction with practical exercises.
Apprentices who have:
- completed the required work-place hours (as signed off by the sponsoring employer),
- successfully completed the in-school technical training and,
- passed the Technical Safety BC Certificate of Qualification exam
are eligible to receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification.
Check the Apprenticeship Training Schedules to see available training dates.
