About this microcredential
Fiber optics has revolutionized communications by providing high-speed data connections. The two courses in this microcredential introduce learners to the installation, testing and maintenance of fiber optic communications systems. The theory portion of the program cover the basic concepts of light theory, optical glass, connector and splicing requirements, cable construction, handling and installation procedures. Practical aspects of test equipment theory are covered as well. The practical portion of the program covers the techniques used in assembling fibre optic connectors, splicing optical fibers and testing a fiber optic link.
