Fiber Optics: Installation, Splicing and Connectors TELX 3010

Electronics Technical Course

International Fees

International fees are typically three times the amount of domestic fees. Exact cost will be calculated upon completion of registration.

Course details

This course introduces the student to the operation and installation of fiber optic communications systems. Students will gain hands on experience with various fiber components used in outside plant networks and indoor premises cabling. Students will gain practical skills in connectorizing and splicing a variety of fiber cables. The theory portion of the course includes fundamental concepts of light theory, optical glass, connectors and splicing, as well as cable construction, handling, and installation procedures. The course emphasizes safety practices related to fiber optic work and covers potential hazards. Upon completion, students will have the necessary skills to construct basic fiber optic links using industry-standard tools and techniques. This course is the first of two required for earning the industry recognized Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) certificate. This course may be eligible for students to receive funding through the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant at www.bcit.ca/financial-aid/strongerbc-future-skills-grant. Students register themselves into the course, then apply for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant to cover payment, if eligible.
