Course Overview
This is the final and most advanced course in the Workplace Hazards and Controls series. The course is effectively divided into two sections. In the first section the student is introduced to OHS systems in a number of industry sectors (petroleum, forestry, railway, aviation, etc.) and to several advanced OHS topics (arc flash, traffic control). In the second section the student is introduced to the practice of full scope risk management. Risk management topics covered include loss categories and the relationship between loss control and risk financing in the practice of risk management.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the studen will be able to:
- Identify and discuss basic work practices and key OHS hazards in the following industry sectors:
- Upstream Oil and Gas
- Downstream Oil and Gas
- Forestry
- Commercial Aviation
- Railways
- Commercial Marine
- Mining.
- Make use of WCB and other statistics to identify the injuries and occupational diseases most prevalent in these industry sectors.
- Access and interpret the OHS and related regulations that govern OHS in these industry sectors.
- Access and make use of prevention and disability management resources provided by the industry safety associations that represent these industry sectors and the regulators that regulate these sectors.
- Demonstrate competency in setting up and managing the OHS components of a standard traffic control program as required by OHS and road safety regulations in each province.
- Demonstrate competency in setting up and managing an arc flash safety program as required by OHS regulation and CSA Z462.
- Discuss the broad spectrum of activities that risk management can include.
- Outline how risk management can be incorporated into loss control.
- Identify legislative requirements that are applicable to risk management practice.
- Describe the risk management process.
- Identify the key players in a corporate risk management program.
- Explain the values that are exposed to a loss.
- Describe the perils that cause a loss.
- Describe the methods for identifying and analyzing loss exposures.
- Describe the various means to establish valuation of property.
- Describe the legal framework that is the basis for liability loss exposures.
- Explain the remedies that the court can impose for liability.
- Explain harm with regard to liability exposure.
- Describe how privilege and immunity affect liability.
- Describe the nature of exposure for personnel loss.
- Explain the major perils affecting personnel loss exposures.
