​In this hands-on course, budding entrepreneurs will examine long term management of a small business. Emphasis will be on topics such as business growth, increasing profit, managing for greater efficiencies and how to survive as an entrepreneur in today's fast changing business environment.

  3. Students are permitted to register up until the first week without approval. To be successful in this course, plan to spend 7-10 hours per week on your studies, starting week 1. This course is held in-person at the downtown campus, but June 4th and 11th will be virtual synchronous classes over Zoom - your instructor will provide details on these sessions.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe advantages and disadvantages of alternate business models such as franchising
  • Discuss strategies for managing small business growth
  • Prepare a strategic long-term growth plan
  • Outline and discuss basic strategies for increasing profit
  • Describe the expansion and contraction cycles of business strategy
  • Explain how an entrepreneur can prepare for an unexpected crisis
  • Discuss how a business plan can be useful tool in identifying and managing business efficiencies
