Course Overview
This theory course introduces the concepts of recognizing, identifying, monitoring, evaluation, and recommending control measures for common chemical and physical hazards in the workplace. Discusses the benefits of implementing an occuptional hygiene program. Explores a wide range of hygiene topics including permissible levels, exposure limits, radiation, temperature and pressure extremes, asbestos contamination, and ventilation design.

Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Support others in developing their understanding of technical language.
- Select appropriate evaluation methods for specific hazards in the workplace.
- Apply models of Recognition - Evaluation - Control and Source - Path - Receiver through recommendations for an effective occupational health and safety program.
- Demonstrate a problem-solving approach in the evaluation of occupational hygiene-related hazards in the work environment, including recognition and evaluation of high risk work practices.
- Develop a systematic approach for evaluation of selected work environments, processes and practices based on concepts, principles and research of occupational hygiene while integrating personal and professional knowledge and experience.
- Identify required changes in work processes and practices and develop collaborative strategies for advocating changes to improve the health and safety of the work environment.
- Develop a beginning awareness of resources (financial, human, material and time) required for organizations to adopt changes related to occupational health and safety.
- Build on verbal and written communication skills through learning experiences and assignments.
