Course Overview
COMP 2665 - Networking Level 3 -LAN Theory & Design, has been replaced by a new in depth, hands-on lab course COMP 2654 -Data Communications and LAN Design. This new course replaces both COMP 2658 and COMP 2665 and covers the basics of designing, supporting and managing computer networks and will help in the preparation for the CompTIA Network+ exam. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Understand the basic concepts behind the networking of computer systems.
- Be able to evaluate existing network hardware, protocols and topologies.
- Have an understanding of the OSI model and how it relates to LAN technologies.
- Possess the skills required to design and manage a small network.
- Given user requirements, be able to recommend specific LAN technologies, and be able to defend the recommendation intelligently.
- Have an in-depth knowledge of Ethernet technologies and the implementation of them.
- Have a general understanding of Token-Ring, wireless technologies features and be able to address design needs of each technology.
- Be able to identify all major components within a LAN structure and identify their characteristics.
