Course Overview
This course covers the principles of photovoltaic electrical energy production, emphasizing system design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for solar photovoltaic power systems. Through hands-on experiences, students will become proficient in various aspects of real-time PV production systems such as Schneider conventional string inverters, Sol-Ark hybrid inverters, Enphase micro-inverters, and SolarEdge DC optimizer systems. Practical lab sessions will take place at the BCIT Burnaby campus Electrical Training Centre, building SE1, providing students opportunities to install Photovoltaic systems in strict accordance with Canadian Electrical Code requirements, manufacturer specifications, and supply authority protocols. Students will also have the chance to explore BCIT Microgrid - OASIS project and learn to estimate energy production, review site-specific documents, and create implementation strategies for grid-tie and off-grid photovoltaic systems. Safety risk management will be covered as well.
