Course Overview
This is the second of two courses exploring the integration of Indigenous peoples' values and traditional knowledge into the practice of ecological restoration. This course will explore how the traditional knowledge and engagement of local communities, in particular Indigenous peoples, is fundamental to the successful management, implementation, and monitoring of ecological restoration projects. Lectures, group discussions, and case studies will be used to review ethical conduct and protocols for working within Indigenous communities. Techniques to communicate with Indigenous community rightsholders in an effective and respectful manner will be reinforced and integrated into a communication and engagement plan.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop and integrate ways in which the effective engagement of local communities may improve the outcomes of restoration projects
- Integrate the roles Indigenous communities play in developing, managing, and maintaining restoration projects
- Design restoration plans that incorporate Indigenous peoples' values and traditional knowledge
- Design a communication plan to engage effectively with local Indigenous communities
