Course details

Presents the role of key stakeholders involved in health and safety issues. Sessions will include: Legal framework for health and safety in Canada, philosophies and techniques for managing health and safety, the business benefits of health and safety, and the concepts of risk management and due diligence.

Prerequisite(s)

  • 50% in CMGT 7205
  • Acceptance into the Construction Management degree program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Summarize the roles and functions of the Workers Compensation Board in BC.
  • Identify and locate various sections of the Workers Compensation Board regulatory framework and interpret their application.
  • Explain the different levels of responsibility for occupational safety regulatory compliance.
  • Explain the different levels of responsibility for occupational safety regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze the business and regulatory consequences of not actively managing health and safety.
  • Determine and analyze the cost of occupational accidents.
  • Develop strategies to actively manage health and safety.
  • Locate various electronically available construction health and safety resources and evaluate their applicability.
