Course Overview
Explores fire detection and suppression. Includes fire detection systems, portable fire extinguishers, automatic sprinkler systems, fire, smoke, and heat alarms, and fire annunciation panels. Discusses the specific detection and suppression issues of chemical, heating, and electrical hazards. Describes the firefighter's role in prevention and suppression.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Describe the relationship between 'Fire Prevention' and 'Fire Protection.'
- Conduct inspections of various fire protection systems studied in this course.
- Develop generic fire inspection forms for fire protection systems.
- Develop fire extinguisher training to workers, supervisors and management.
- Calculate the water flow and supply required to adequately supply an automatic sprinkler system under emergency conditions.
- Recognize the difference smoke and heat detectors.
- Develop an understanding how smoke and heat detectors work.
- Develop an awareness of Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems and their components and inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements.
- Develop an awareness of the various types of sprinkler heads.
