Course Overview
Familiarizes students with lab and testing procedures for testing construction materials. Topics include sieve analysis, relative density, compaction tests, Atterberg limits, and soil classification.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful cmpletion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the fundamental differences between asphalt cement concrete and Portland cement concretes and where each might be used.
- Describe the physical properties of key pavement materials, tests used to measure these properties, and construction operations required to produce these materials.
- Explain the basics of hot mix and Portland cement concrete mix design and their various components.
- Identify and describe typical tests used to measure quality and contract compliance; and evaluate and recommend the best use of Soils, Aggregate, HMA, PCC.
- Acquire and prepare samples of construction materials for testing.
- General Understanding of the Unified Soils Classification System, sieve analysis, relative density, Atterberg limits and compaction tests following the applicable testing procedures as specified by CSA and ASTM.
