Course Overview
This course will rotate students through the cardiology department of various hospital professional labs and doctor’s offices to obtain clinical experience in electrocardiogram review, ambulatory ECG analysis, exercise tolerance testing, and continued patient care skills.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Interact and communicate in a professional manner with patients, technologists, physicians, and all other allied health professionals.
- Apply theory knowledge to obtain patient history and adequate patient assessment prior to cardiac procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment.
- Record electrocardiograms and review the recording and analyzing of electrocardiograms.
- Apply AECG monitors, instruct patient, and disconnect recorder at end of recording.
- Apply theory knowledge to the performance of AECG monitor scanning techniques.
- Apply theory knowledge to the performance of Exercise Tolerance Testing techniques and procedures.
- Apply knowledge of pacemaker and other implantable cardiac devices.
- Observe pacemaker and/or other implantable devices.
- Understand pacemaker assessment and programming.
- Obtain and analyze pacemaker trans-telephonic monitoring.
- Apply knowledge of indication for pacing.
- Describe the various pacing modes/timing cycles.
- Apply knowledge and analyze skill in normal/abnormal pacemaker rhythm.
- Describe functional non-capture and non-sensing.
- Identify indication and contraindication for use of magnet.
- Observe the assessment of lead placement at implant.
- Apply theory knowledge of patient care skills and maintain universal precautions.
- Perform computer skills; understand management systems and informatics.
- Mintain patient care skills and practice universal precautions.
- Practice proper documentation and reporting of all cardiac procedures.
- Apply professional standards, ethics, and legalities.
- Comply with facility (clinical sites) and BCIT’s directives.
- Apply effective communication skills in the clinical environment.
