COMM 1100 is designed to give students basic listening, writing and speaking skills that will allow them to prepare written and oral reports for BCIT courses and to proceed to more advanced communication courses.

- Use appropriate formats and protocols for business messages .
- Organize information effectively in routine written business messages.
- Use an appropriate and effective style and tone in written business messages.
- Use appropriate document design techniques (headings, lists, space, symbols/icons) effectively to make information accessible.
- Plan and deliver oral information effectively for a given audience and purpose in a time-limited, routine, informative presentation.
- Use graphics (tables, graphs, charts, drawings, schematics, photographs, etc.) to make information clear and accessible.
- Use language, grammar, and punctuation correctly and effectively as required for a business audience.
- Critically evaluate information to determine if it is accurate, relevant, and complete.
