Course Overview
COMP 1255 is no longer being offered. This hands-on course introduces the Sage 50 Accounting software package previously known as Simply Accounting. Sage 50 provides the tools to manage bookkeeping, payroll and small business accounting needs. Participants must already understand accounting theory. FMGT 1100 or equivalent accounting knowledge is a prerequisite for this course. Labs and exercises cover accessing the Sage 50 product and setting up a complete set of books including G/L, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory and payroll. Students have the ability to access a version of Sage 50 for practice outside of class. Upon successful completion students will be able to use the Sage 50 Accounting product tools to manage small business bookkeeping, payroll and financial management needs. COMP 1255 is aimed at BCIT Computing students. It is an elective in the “Applied Computer Applications”, and “Applied Computer Information Systems” associate certificates as well as the CST/PTS Diploma.
