Stories
Maureen Connelly pioneers green roof research
Research head Maureen Connelly won a national grant in 2003 supporting a Centre for the Advancement of Green Roof Technology for three years. The funding, from the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), recognized the potential already demonstrated at BCIT. The Centre is now the BCIT Centre for Architectural Ecology, with research collaborations in the areas of green roofs and walls, living architecture, acoustics and building science.
Power Tower – research & training for solar energy
In 2003, BCIT students, faculty and staff collaborated to design and build the Power Tower which provides a practical demonstration project for research and teaching in solar energy technology.
Solar canopy
The Solar Canopy project, a UBC initiative, received $2 million from BC’s Clean Energy Fund in 2008 and was a 2008 BC Hydro Power Smart Excellence Award Finalist in New Technology of the Year.
