The Web Development Foundations (WDF) microcredential introduces you to hand-coding with HTML5 and CSS3, and then moves on to web development with JavaScript. WDF focuses on best practices used in industry to build web pages and websites. Take this convenient first step on your journey to become a web developer. Start with just one course.

Who should complete the WDF Microcredential?
This program might be for you if you:
- You want to learn to build web pages and websites by hand, and have no prior experience
- You’re able to devote up to 10 hours per week outside of class to homework and assignments – learn more about workload and attendance expectations in our Computing Flexible Learning Student Guide

What Web Development Fundamentals grads can do
- Apply best practices for web scripting to create web pages and websites
- Upon successful completion, students may apply for a digital badge for each of COMP 1850 and COMP 2132
- Move on to Introduction to Full-Stack Web Development microcredential to gain advanced JavaScript skills for Back-end and Front-end web development
- Later, ladder to the Applied Web Development (AWD) Associate Certificate, as well as the Computer Systems Certificate (CSC)

Entrance Requirements
- Completion of COMP 1002 or equivalent knowledge of PC file management.
- A current model PC with an i5 or higher equivalent processor, at least 8 GB of RAM, and minimum 256 GB of storage.
- High-speed internet access for online sections and homework.
Application processing
Ongoing throughout the year.Recommended for success
- English skills at a Grade 12 level or equivalent.
- Math skills at a Grade 12 level or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education or work experience in business or computing.
International applicants
In-person delivery
This delivery option is available to international applicants. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.
Online delivery
This delivery option is available to international applicants who will complete the program from outside Canada or who currently have a valid status in Canada other than study permit. International students completing the program fully online are not eligible for a study permit.
Apply to program
Formal application to the microcredential is not required. Upon successful completion of the courses, email the program contact with your full name, student number, and mailing address to be issued a microcredential.

Each COMP course tuition fee in this program is around $600, depending on the delivery. Please budget approximately $1,200 for total tuition for these two courses.

Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) tuition is charged on a course-by-course basis. Please see the Flexible Learning Tuition & Fees page for more information on domestic and international tuitions.
Books & supplies
- Only one textbook is required and costs less than $100.
- Students are also expected to provide their own current-model laptop computer with high-speed internet access for homework.

Program Details
Please read our Computing Flexible Learning Student Guide (specifically page 5) for workload expectations. These are post-secondary, and for credit courses, so there are attendance requirements and significant homework outside of each class.
The program is typically completed over two terms. Most students will complete 1 course per term, which is typically an 11-hour-per-week total time commitment
However, some students with prior background in previous versions of HTML, CSS and JavaScript have the option of completing the compressed 6-week course sections of COMP 1850 and COMP 2132, which are available in the afternoons at the Downtown Campus.
By completing these two courses consecutively, some students may finish in just 12 weeks and progress to the next level, Introduction to Full-Stack Web Development Microcredential.

The minimum passing grade for each course is 60%.Program delivery
