If you’re a registered nurse (RN) looking for career advancement, or a student in an accredited RN program seeking specialized training, look no further than BCIT’s Specialty Nursing department.

The only program of its kind in Canada, Specialty Nursing is a part of the School of Health Sciences and offers advanced training to RNs and accredited students in a variety of specialized nursing disciplines. Graduates of our certificate programs meet the growing need for trained specialists to work in high-skill, high-reward practice areas.

Courses are offered on a part-time basis allowing maximum flexibility for learners. Specialty Certificates require between 24 and 33 credits to complete, with most courses worth 3-4 credits. As with all BCIT programs, previous experience and academic learning can count toward transfer credit through our Prior Learning and Recognition process. Certificates can be completed in as few as 18 months.

For RNs with college diplomas, BCIT offers the unique opportunity of earning a specialty certificate and a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) degree. Degree studies teach wider knowledge of systemic health care practices and foster creative leadership and professional growth. Registered nurses with their BSN are eligible for graduate studies and expanded employment opportunities in leadership and management as well as careers in community health.
