Overview
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Foundations microcredential provides the foundations for nurses passionate about providing person-centered sexual health care in the areas of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraceptive care. Each of the two courses reviews the diversity of human sexuality, models of care, and clinical approaches to STIs and contraceptive care, while examining values and attitudes.
About the program
Learners will be evaluated using the following tools:
- reflective journalling
- reflective discussion
- quizzes
- final exam
For registered nurses (RNs) looking to achieve reproductive-health-certified practice, these courses—with an STI placement within six months—are required by BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in order to achieve certified practice. For RNs completing for STI-certified practice, entrance to NSPN 7735 and NSPN 7736 will only be approved with an organized practicum.
For more information on certified practice courses, including the STI practicum course (NSPN 7736) or other reproductive health courses at BCIT, please visit the BCIT Perinatal Specialty page.
