Overview
The Hydronic Technician Program is designed to provide those working in the construction industry with the technical knowledge and installation skills required to install and service complete Hydronic Systems (hot water heating).
Many tradespersons working in the Hydronic Heating Industry have taken Apprenticeship in the traditional fields of Plumbing, Pipefitting, Gas Fitting or Air Conditioning/Refrigeration but lack the high degree of specialized skills and technical knowledge needed to work in the Hydronic field.
This program is designed to provide those skills and is fully endorsed by the RHWHA who is actively promoting this training within their association and industry. Many components of this program will also be of interest to those involved in Building Technologies such as Hydronic Design, Hydronic Installation and Cross Connection.

Job opportunities
Hydronic heating in the domestic/commercial market has experienced rapid growth in the last few years primarily due to the aggressive marketing of manufacturers and suppliers and is expected to continue to grow for years to come. It is the heating system of choice for custom housing and many types of commercial building. There is a growing demand by the heating contractors of British Columbia for highly skilled trades people for both the installation and service sectors of this industry. The growth of the residential/commercial market will ensure a continued growth in the hydronic market and the workforce needed to provide installation and service.
Apply for graduation
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit it to Student Information and Enrolment Services.
