Pathways
There are a few ways of beginning your new career as a heavy mechanical trades apprentice:
- Take our Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation program. By working through a series of practical projects and assignments and theory assignments you'll build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to make you more employable in an entry-level position. By successfully completing the program, you will also receive credit for the in-school portion of Level 1 of our Heavy Mechanical Trades Apprenticeship training.
- Find employment within heavy mechanical trades with an employer who will register you with SkilledTradesBC. In this option, you are indentured to a company as an heavy mechanical trades apprentice, learning basic skills while you are employed. The advantage here is that you earn while you learn.
- You may be granted credit for the completion of Level One of Heavy Mechanical Trades by successfully passing the Level 1 Exam through SkilledTradesBC, or by having your employer complete an exemption request form and submitting it to SkilledTradesBC.
