Overview
About the program
The Essential Technical Skills for Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Certificate is a unique program that provides entry-level skills, knowledge, and experience to students interested in exploring careers in the design-build sector. The ACE Certificate is open to all qualified applicants and offers students without defined educational or employment goals the opportunity to explore their options within this in-demand sector.
This program is offered as a series of part-time courses, commencing with three in-person courses delivered at the Burnaby Campus in July and August, followed by 12 months of online learning concurrent with work-integrated learning and internship placements. It is designed to be completed by a cohort of up to 24 students over a 14-month period.
The ACE Certificate tuition is fully funded through a partnership with Local Practice Architecture + Design and the BC Workplace Innovation Fund. The Workplace Innovation Fund is a flagship initiative of the StrongerBC: Future Ready Action Plan focused on supporting innovative projects that address labour shortages, better prepare employers and workers for the changing economy, and attract, hire and retain a diverse workforce.
The ACE Certificate was developed in partnership with Ryder Architecture and Gateshead College in the UK, and is an adaptation of PlanBEE, a similar program which has been offered by Gateshead College since 2015.
