Cybersecurity Operations

This badge introduces students to the role a Cybersecurity Operations Analyst plays in a Security Operations Centre (SOC). Students will examine various network protocols and services and explore their function on modern networks. Students will also learn about different virtualization hypervisors that run on modern computers and will install a hypervisor and virtual machine to allow exploration of network protocols and network services. ​​

The badge explores the physical and logical structure of a computer network. Students will learn to identify the devices and connections used in a network and will be able to explain the operation of the network. Several types of network attacks will be explored, and students will learn how to classify these attacks for effective retrieval, mitigation, and communication.​

This badge discusses the prevention of malicious attacks using network and host-based firewalls and intrusion detection systems as well as other malware detection systems. Students will also learn about cryptography and the impact of cryptography on security monitoring. Systems for monitoring endpoint vulnerabilities and mitigation of endpoint attacks will also be discussed.​

This badge with introducing students to a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system. Students will learn to a SIEM to identify attacks against an organization's network. Students will evaluate alerts and determine the level of threat facing an organization. Students will drill down into alerts to determine other relevant information about an attack including whether other hosts on the network were compromised by the attack. After examining various network attacks students will work with an incident response model to respond to and mitigate attacks.​
