Overview
The Canadian Engineering Professional Practice microcredential is designed to provide trained engineers with the law and ethics education and communication skills to help them to excel in the engineering profession and successfully pursue professional licensure with one of Canada’s provincial or territorial engineering regulators.
About the program
The program familiarizes internationally graduated engineers with the practice of engineering in Canada and the regulatory framework of the profession. For Canadian Engineering program graduates, this program will prepare them for the National Professional Practice Examination (NPPE); one of the mandatory requirements for the licensing of engineers in Canada.
Through their work in these Microcredential courses, students are expected to demonstrate that they are prepared to meet the eight key Canadian environment competencies required for professional registration.

- Safety Awareness
- Demonstrate Peer Review and Quality Control
- Communication Category
- Oral Communication
- Writing
- Reading and Comprehension
- Professional Accountability
- Code of Ethics

- Engineering and the Public
Who it is for
The program is designed for internationally trained engineers who intend to apply for registration as a professional engineer. It is also suitable for those preparing to write the National Professional Practice Examination (NPPE).
What grads can do
Once registered as a professional engineer in a province or territory, graduates have the right to engage in professional engineering in the province or territory in which they are registered.

Ongoing throughout the year.
Recommended for success
Applicants are recommended to have the following:
- English language proficiency: Category 3 – English Studies 12 (50%) or equivalent
- Post-secondary education: Diploma or degree in applied science, engineering, or engineering technology
International applicants
This program is available to international applicants who will complete the program from outside Canada or who currently have a valid status in Canada other than study permit. International applicants accepted into this program are not eligible for a study permit.
Apply to program
Formal application to the microcredential is not required. Upon successful completion of the courses, email the program contact with your full name, student number, and mailing address to be issued a microcredential.
