Overview
Advanced training in mineral assaying is provided through a series of guided, distance education courses. Become a skilled and competent assayer in B.C. upon completing training which includes introduction to assaying, sampling theory and methods, fire assaying and mineral, identification, statistical analysis and laboratory practicum.
About the program
BCIT Flexible Learning (formerly Part-time Studies) offers comprehensive training in Mineral Assaying through Chemical and Environmental Technology in a part-time format. Courses may take place as night school, distance education, workshop, or online offerings. The complete training involves 1.5 – 2 years of combined classroom work and lab practicums. Lab practicums (considered an essential component of this training) help students gain maximum benefit from classroom work; it also helps students develop speed and accuracy in analytical work. Enrolment in each course is limited to 12 students.
Mineral Assaying training covers:
- Classical wet assaying and qualitative analysis.
- Selectivity and specificity of analytical procedures.
- Analytical instrumentation-theory, and practical.
- Reference standards.
Who it’s for
Registrants require a diploma in chemical or mining technology or equivalent plus practical lab experience. Students can also opt to take any part of the training for the purpose of job upgrading, information only, or as a “refresher”.
What grads can do
These courses were developed to meet the mining industry’s growing demands for skilled and competent assayers in B.C.
