Indigenous Initiatives can help

Our team provides the following services to Indigenous students:

Referrals to other BCIT departments & the wider community

Indigenous Initiatives is here to connect you with the resources you need. Please contact us with any questions.

Computer, fax & photocopy access

All Indigenous students have free access to computers, printing and telephone, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at the Indigenous Gathering Place in SW1, Room 1521.

Be sure to check out the listings of scholarships, awards, bursaries, and financial aid available to Indigenous students.

Student lounge

You are always welcome at the Indigenous Initiative’s student lounge, located in SW1, Room 1521, the Indigenous Gathering Place. Drop by anytime, we have a full kitchen, coffee is always on.

Indigenous peer to peer mentorship

Transitioning into the first year at BCIT can be challenging. Connect with a student mentor and make your BCIT experience a successful one.

Traditional sweatlodge ceremonies

In Indigenous culture, the Sweatlodge empowers the natural elements of our being with the four elements of water, air, fire, and earth. The Indigenous Initiative’s department exclusively welcomes BCIT staff and students to join us in our Sweatlodge ceremonies.

Welcome to BCIT! Kick Start is a month-long event full of activities to help you settle into BCIT.

Housing information

Looking for a place to live while you study at BCIT? We offer on-campus housing on the Burnaby Campus and a comprehensive listing of off-campus accommodation.

Peer tutoring

Need to review concepts or require immediate feedback? Your fellow students at BCIT — peers who have achieved superior grades in their previous terms and understand the pressures and challenges of being a BCIT student — can help.

BCIT Recreation Services promotes, encourages and enables the practice of physical well being. Visit Rec Services to enjoy the gym, fitness classes, intramurals and more.
