​You’re an instructor wanting to explore the quickly evolving world of synchronous virtual course delivery. Either way, this course will help you on that journey as you explore current trends and research, best practices, and a wealth of take-aways to apply to your own practice. This self-paced independent study course uses an asynchronous delivery format to talk about synchronous teaching and learning.

Description

This course will help instructors to use the newest best practices in teaching live virtual classes, with the aim to maximize student engagement, satisfaction, and learning. Instructors who complete this course will examine their assumptions about virtual teaching, and proceed through a series of engaging, self-paced, short video sessions with supplementary documents and exercises. They will finish the course with a new frame through which to consider virtual teaching, an understanding of fundamental best teaching principles, and practical new tactics to apply immediately in their virtual classes.

Audience

The course is suited for any instructor who teaches live virtual class and wants to improve student engagement. This includes both new and experienced instructors.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain the current state of research in virtual student engagement
  • Develop an understanding of fundamental best teaching practices
  • Use practical new tactics in your course delivery

Delivery details

The course is broken up into three modules. Although it is recommended that you follow the lessons in consecutive order to maximize the learning, it is not a requirement.
