BCIT Environmental Public Health (EPH) Learning Lunch Hour!

The Learning Lunch Hour is a virtual space that connects anyone interested in environmental public health with EPH professionals and experts. Providing a comprehensive overview of the various aspects and roles within the field, the Learning Lunch Hour aims to foster an environment of shared learning and professional growth.

Tuesday, February 27th from 11:30 – 12:20 pm we welcome BCIT graduate, Neelam Hayer from Northern Health as our next guest.

Neelam works as an Environmental Health Team Lead in Prince George. She completed her BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UNBC before graduating from BCIT’s Environmental Health program in 2009. Neelam grew up in northern B.C., so being back in Prince George was coming back home for her. Neelam has enjoyed the diversity of her work in Northern Health working as a generalist EHO before moving into a leadership role. She’s had the opportunity to teach courses to the public (Foodsafe, Marketsafe, Poolsafe, and Watersafe), mentor numerous practicum students and sit as a BOC examiner. During Covid when the role of the EHO shifted to enforce the PHO’s Orders, Neelam supported NH’s MHOs with drafting regional Orders and restrictions. She’s also been working on large and complex contaminated sites files. The diversity of the job in Northern Health has kept her learning every day. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, hiking, playing soccer, trying out healthy new recipes, and spending time with family and friends.
