BCIT Bikes!
The goal of this website is to provide information and resources for those who are already cycling to work and to school, and to encourage and support new bike commuters. It is a joint effort of the Green Team, BCIT Bicycling Committee, Facilities and Campus Development, Safety and Security, and Recreation Services.
You will find information on routes to BCIT’s campuses, campus facilities like bike racks and lockers (Campus Bike Storage), showers, bike repair stations, and general cycling tips and resources.
The bicycle is the most efficient vehicle ever invented. It requires the least amount of energy per metre travelled than any other form of transportation – including walking. Bicycling also reduces BCIT’s carbon footprint by cutting down on carbon emissions.
GoByBike Weeks
GoByBike Weeks are a 2 week-long campaign encouraging people to cycle more often across Metro Vancouver! It happens 3 times each year: February (Winter), June (Spring) and September (Fall). All bike trips count – you can participate whether you’re riding your bike to work, school, the store, for leisure, or beyond. You can log your bike trips online at logmyride.gobybikebc.ca, for GoByBike Weeks events or any time.
World Bicycle Day
World Bicycle Day draws attention to the benefits of using the bicycle — a simple, affordable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation. The bicycle contributes to cleaner air and less congestion and makes education, health care and other social services more accessible to the most vulnerable populations. A sustainable transport system that promotes economic growth, reduces inequalities while bolstering the fight against climate change is critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Helping you adopt a more sustainable commute
BCIT is committed to promoting the use of sustainable travel to help faculty, staff and students adopt a more sustainable commute and contribute to BCIT’s goal to become greenhouse gas neutral. This initiative supports the Ecocity Standard for Environmentally Friendly Transport, which looks at how non-motorized transportation is supported and encouraged by the city and is used by a significant proportion of people for trips under 5 km.
