Course details

This course introduces the students to the basics of front-end web development. Students learn how to utilize HTML 5 and CSS 3 in order to create web templates. Topics include Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) 5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 3, and an introduction to JavaScript. This course is the foundation for subsequent web-development courses.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Construct web documents, utilizing many of the HTML elements available.
  • Identify well-formed and valid HTML.
  • Develop web forms utilizing HTML5 form inputs and validation features.
  • Design web documents utilizing HTML5 semantic elements.
  • Generate HTML5 elements using JavaScript.
  • Analyze JavaScript variables and functions.
  • Differentiate between the different CSS 3 selectors.
  • Analyze cascading effects using CSS 3 and how they apply to layouts.
  • Differentiate between fixed, liquid, adaptive, and responsive layouts.
  • Understand how to import style sheets, fonts, and images into CSS 3 style sheets.
  • Analyze errors and messages in a current web browser debugging tool such as Firefox or Chrome.
  • Select appropriate markup that facilitates embedding external resources into a web document.
