Course details

​The Urban Forest Assessment course provides training in ecosystem values and assessment protocols for urban forests and the application of this information in regional land management. This knowledge is increasingly relevant in municipal planning and in the assessment and enhancement of natural capital and infrastructure. i-Tree software provides economic values for ecological services such as for pollution mitigation, avoided runoff, and carbon sequestration, and provides valuable information about pest and storm water risk management. This course includes an understanding of the basics of urban forest assessment, an overview of i-Tree applications and their function and features. The Urban Forest Assessment course is applicable for students studying ecological restoration, forestry, resource management, arborists, planners, consultants, stewardship groups and teachers. This course is accreditted by the International Society of Arboriculture and will give students 6 ISA CEU’s (A, U, M, TL, TW, Bm).

Upon successful compleltion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe an urban forest and the services provided by urban forests and urban trees.
  • Demonstrate understanding of designing inventory for specific management objectives for urban trees.
  • Provide overview of i-Tree applications and their main functions and applications.
  • Use and apply the i-Tree Design, i-Tree Canopy and i-Tree myTree web applications.
  • Describe function of i-Tree Eco including attributes for tree observation.
