Course details
This course introduces students to the words and phrases of medical practice with the assistance of a software program. Medical terms that students previously studied will relate to those heard with the software. Through this course, students will develop entry-level transcription skills for transcribing dictated materials accurately and completely, following the proper documentation requirements used in specific areas of the medical field. This course is also designed for medical office personnel wishing to upgrade their medical transcription skills.

This course is delivered synchronously online. Attendance to the first class is mandatory, no late registrations. This is not a self-paced course as you will be expected to be available and online on the posted days and times shown on your registration schedule. It is important to have a stable and consistent internet connection to access course content. No class May 18. Computer, microphone, and webcam required. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Transcribe a patient's physician's orders.
- Navigate a hospital system to transcribe orders for the correct department.
- Identify which departments perform which tests.
- Transcribe a patient's test appointments or preparations in advance of treatment.
- Record patient information provided by another department and transcribe instructions.
- Access a patient's current chart to find information.
- Access a patient's history.
- Spell generic and brand-name drugs.
- Spell medications, medical terminology, and abbreviations by memory and by consulting reference books.
- Transcribe a variety of medical dictation reports from different departments, including diagnostic radiology, X-Ray, MRI, and medical consultations.
- Photocopy, fax, and distribute reports.
